State of the Union for Argumentation Only

Watch President Obama deliver his State of the Union Address.
Choose two sentences from his speech that stood out to you - tell me what they are and tell me why they stood out? Do you agree with the statements? Were the images strong? What do you think he wanted you to see from his word choices? (one to two paragraphs)

Was he creating an argument? Tell me at least three of his claims, and the grounds for those claims. (three to four full paragraphs)

Did he tell any stories? Briefly re-tell one of his narratives. Was it effective? Why or Why not? Think in terms of narrative probability and narrative fidelity. Explain how the stories meets those criteria or not. (two full paragraphs)

In your opinion state in one paragraph your views on one of the claims, did you see it as a valid claim or not. You must give reasons to substantiate YOUR claim. (this is not based on your political affiliations - please make comments on the SPEECH, and the CLAIMS not your likes or dislikes of him or his political party, even someone from the opposite party can have valid claims).

All papers must be typed and should be a minimum of seven full paragraphs.
